Make Art Happen 〰️

Wilson Active Artists Association is a long loved artistic organization that has been established in Wilson, North Carolina since 1965.

WAAA was initiated by a group of eight Wilsonians who, despite their diverse life and work experiences, shared a love of art. This group gathered for the first time in April 1965 to formally discuss founding an organization with the mission to promote an interest in the visual arts in Wilson. Through the efforts of WAAA, the people of Wilson and surrounding communities gained exposure to varied styles of art through gallery exhibitions and non-traditional venues for showcasing artists and their work. With greater awareness of art and its value to the community fostered by WAAA, interest in and commitment to art education grew in Wilson. Soon, the Arts Council of Wilson, a close partner of WAAA was started.

Throughout the years since WAAA's founding, there have been countless changes both in and around Wilson and the rest of the world but one thing has remained: WAAA’s dedication to sharing a love of art.

Wilson Active Artists Association has continued to live up to its mission. With the passing of time and members coming and going, WAAA has and will remain an art organization serving as a common space for visual arts and artists, from creation to promotion, from support to the exchange of ideas.
